My name is Joel Hansen, and I am the 4th generation of lamp repairmen.  During the great Depression my great-grandfather, Harvey Hansen needed to find a way to support his family. Going door to door, Harvey sold various handcrafted items. One day as he was out, he saw someone making lampshades and thought this was something he could start doing as well. Harvey began selling his lampshades to hotels up and down the coast. Harvey realized he could make a living selling lampshades, so he opened a lamp repair business near Greenlake and then later moved to Phinney Ridge. Harvey's son, Harold, took to the business and later opened his own shop which would then be taken over by my father and now I am the 4th generation. I have been working in lamp repair for over 25 years. I am excited to be running a small business just like my great grandfather did and continue the legacy of repairing lamps, selling shades and restoring heirlooms.
